1 Million Kilo Challenge - Fundraiser

Channel Ten's 1 Million Kilo Challenge is a 10-week healthy lifestyle challenge that aims to equip all Australians with the resources, advice and motivation they need to achieve and maintain their healthy weight goal. If you choose to participate select DSAQ as your charity of choice.

Overview:

If you are participating in the 1 Million Kilo Challenge why not take up the challenge while raising funds for DSAQ at the same time?

The challenge will run for 10 weeks and promotes healthy eating, exercise and happier lifestyles for everyone that participates.

Southbank Social Gathering

This is an event for youth members and young adults!

When & Where

Date:	12th February 2012
Venue:	Southbank. Please meet at Streets Beach at the lifeguard's chair.
Time:	Arrival: 10:00am

Overview:

Come and join us for a relaxing day in the beautiful Southbank Parklands. Catch up with friends and volunteers who you've met at other activities. We will be swimming, going to the markets, hanging out, throwing a football around, and maybe even doing a scavenger hunt! A picnic lunch will be had, so bring along enough food and drink for yourself to eat.

Bring: Swimmers, towel, spare clothes, sunscreen, water, picnic lunch, money for the markets, plastic/waterproof bag for wet clothes. Please also remember to fill in the excursion info form when you RSVP.

RSVP: Monday 6th February.

Cost:

No cost to attend but please bring money if you wish to buy things at the markets.

Brisbane Education Conference

This is a must attend conference, for everyone working with a child or young adult with Down syndrome. It is guaranteed to inspire you to revolutionise the way you work with these students and maximise their educational outcomes.

Venue:	Kedron-Wavell Services Club, Brisbane.
Time:	9:00am - 3:30pm (Registrations from 8:30am)

Overview:

The conference aims to provide information about Down syndrome and implications for classroom learning. It will provide teachers with practical strategies and techniques for teaching literacy and numeracy skills. Opportunities will be given for participants to network and discuss their own personal challenges and achievements.

Presented by Amanda Corby - DSAQ Education Consultant and Rachel Carr - Information and Services Coordinator.

Some of Queensland's most experienced and informative speakers in the area of working with children with special needs will share their insights and ideas to help you expand your understanding and provide you with tools, ideas and resources that you can incorporate into your own educational context.

Morning tea and lunch will be provided.

Cost:

$250.00 per person - Two Day Standard Rate (non-member schools).

$200.00 per person - Two Day Standard Rate (member schools).

$100.00 per person - Two Day Undergraduate Student Rate (Student ID must be presented).

$60.00 - Annual DSAQ Membership for Schools.

New Years Eve 2011

DSAQ Members again welcomed in the New Year at the Brisbane New Year Ball held at the RNA Showgrounds. Thank you to the Ball Events Committee for providing free entry to our attendees.
