Down Syndrome Ireland is delighted to host and welcome you to the 10th World Down Syndrome Congress in Dublin.

The theme for the Congress is "Lifelong Living and Learning". We have chosen this theme to stress the fact that people with Down syndrome and their families develop right throughout their lives. We are constantly encountering new experiences and personal demands, in circumstances that can be both challenging and fulfilling for each individual, family and community.

We welcome all contributions of innovative research, original information and international best practice policies. We plan to encompass a balanced perspective on current issues of importance and concern for people with Down syndrome, their families, and all those who work with them.

To celebrate the 10th WDSC we will hold the first "Synod of People with Down Syndrome."

This will be a ground breaking event where the Agenda and Programme will be developed by and for people with Down syndrome. It is vital and important that their wishes and desires are voiced and heard in this open forum, that they themselves are to the fore, and that they take pride of place.

Down Syndrome Ireland plans a dynamic and exciting programme that will cater for all professionals including health, educational, and research practitioners. There will be a parallel participative programme for parents, siblings, children and adults with Down syndrome.

2009 will celebrate the steps already taken by people with Down syndrome, their families and supporting professionals around the world. Together we will search for ways forward and best practice in the areas of most need for the 'Full Journey of Life'. We will also commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the discovery of Trisomy 21 chromosomal anomaly.
